Description
This dataset presents Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) estimates for drinking water services from the Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report. Drinking water services refer to the accessibility, availability and quality of the main source used by households for drinking, cooking, personal hygiene and other domestic uses. The JMP has service ladders used to benchmark and compare service levels across countries. JMP ladder for drinking water service levels include the following:
– Safely managed: Drinking water from an improved water source which is located on premises, available when needed and free from fecal and priority chemical contamination
– Basic: Drinking water from an improved source, provided collection time is not more than 30 minutes for a round trip including queuing
– Limited: Drinking water from an improved source for which collection time exceeds 30 minutes for a round trip including queuing
– Unimproved: Drinking water from an unprotected dug well or unprotected spring
– Surface water: Drinking water directly from a river, dam, lake, pond, stream, canal or irrigation canal
– Improved: Improved drinking water sources are those that have the potential to deliver safe water by nature of their design and construction, and include: piped water, boreholes or tube wells, protected dug wells, protected springs, rainwater, and packaged or delivered water
The Sustainable Development Goals include global targets to achieve universal access to basic services and to progressively improve the standard of WASH services by 2030. This dataset by JMP is responsible for official reporting on corresponding global SDG indicators related to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
